Kathy Kovel first learned basic jewelry techniques in her hometown at the West Hartford Art League. She pursued her career in metal arts attending Maine College of Art in Portland, Maine where she studied with Master Tim McCreight. After four years of school, she began working as a bench jeweler. Kathy moved to the Bay area in 1998 where she had her own studio in Oakland. She now resides in Portland, Oregon where she continues to refine her craft creating unique rings and earrings.

One of the things Kathy loves most is working on a small scale. She is also drawn to patterns and repetition in a lot of her work. Her pieces incorporate a lot of sterling silver, gold, semi-precious stones, as well as foreign and old coins. She also occasionally re-purposes found objects in her work.
